Scleroderma is a connective tissue disorder that qualifies a patient with dry mouth or dry eye for the diagnosis of secondary Sjogren's syndrome. Scleroderma is often associated with tightness of the eyelids and narrowing of the palpebral tissues. Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and positive blood tests for rheumatoid factor, antinuclear antibody, SS-A, and SS-B indicate a systemic autoimmune disorder.
